Poker is a card game played by two or more players. Its rules are determined by the variant being played, but all involve betting in one or more intervals, and minimizing losses with poor hands while maximizing winnings with good ones is the game\u2019s underlying skill. It may also involve bluffing and deception.<\/p>\n
There are several rounds of betting in a hand, each starting with the player to the left of the dealer. Two mandatory bets called blinds are made before the cards are dealt, and these are placed into a central pot to provide an incentive for players to play (and a way to win the pot).<\/p>\n
Once each player has 2 hole cards, a flop is dealt. This will have anywhere from 3 to 5 additional cards and begins another round of betting. During this phase of the game, strong hands will often be bet heavily, ejecting weaker hands and increasing the value of the remaining hands in the pot.<\/p>\n
When it\u2019s your turn to act, you can either \u201ccall\u201d a bet or raise it. Calling means you want to place a bet equal to the amount the person before you raised. Raising means you want to add more money to the pot than the previous player did. You can also fold your hand if you don\u2019t have a good one. If you have a good enough hand, you will win the pot.
